Set Up Recovery Emails

What does this do for me?

Recovery emails send timed reminders to shoppers who left a cart, using consent and suppression rules so you never email the wrong person. There is no email service, API key, or DNS setup to configure.

Before you begin

Automated recovery email sequences require the Pro plan. Settings changes require the Shopify store account owner; staff see them read-only.

1. Enable the sequences

  1. Open Settings in Abandoned Cart Pro.
  2. Under Recovery emails, select Enable recovery emails.
  3. The banner turns green and reads “Recovery email sequences are ON. Consenting customers receive reminders at +1h, +24h, and +72h.”
Only customers with marketing consent are emailed. Unsubscribes, bounces, and completed purchases are hard-suppressed. Select Pause recovery emails at any time to stop sending.

2. Choose a delivery method

Under Email delivery, pick one of two transports:
  • Native Shopify email (included on every plan). Recovery emails go out through Shopify’s own draft-order invoice email, sent from your store. Native mode creates a draft order for each emailed cart, so these appear in Orders → Drafts; they are used only to deliver the reminder and are not counted as recovered sales.
  • Custom-branded email (Advanced plan). Fully-branded emails with your logo, colors, and sender name, delivered from the app’s managed sending infrastructure. No merchant email credentials are required.
Use Use native Shopify email or Use custom-branded email to switch. Switching to custom-branded requires the Advanced $12.99 plan.

3. Confirm the sending rules

  • Every send runs the same consent and suppression checks on both transports.
  • If a required setting fails, the app fails closed rather than send without consent.
