Void a transaction

What does this do for me?

Voiding cancels an uncaptured payment authorization on an order without creating a refund. Only authorized or uncaptured transactions are listed as eligible. A completed capture cannot be voided here. Voids require manager approval: the managers who may approve voids are set per location in location settings, and a manager must also be listed as an authorized user.

1. Open the void form

  1. On the POS Smart Grid, select the Void transaction tile. Its subheading reads Void authorization when it is available.
  2. You can also open the same form from an order’s action menu.

2. Find the order

  1. In Order number, order ID, or Order GID, enter the order you want. If the modal was opened from an order, the box is pre-filled.
  2. Select Search eligible transactions.
  3. Under Eligible transactions for the order name, select the transaction to void. Each row shows the amount, currency, and gateway.
If no eligible uncaptured authorization exists, the app reports that none were found.

3. Confirm and void

  1. Under Confirm void, review the transaction ID and amount.
  2. A warning banner notes that this cannot be undone.
  3. Select Void authorization.

4. Result

A success banner reads Voided transaction followed by the transaction ID, and the row is removed from the list. Every void writes a VOID event to the audit log with the order, amount, and currency. Voiding is an API operation that instructs Shopify’s payment gateway to void the authorization. The app does not store payment-card data. Next: Review the audit log.
