Payment processed, Shopify reconciliation needed

What does this do for me?

This guide helps you clear Needs attention on a transaction when your buyer has paid with Apple Pay, but Shopify has not confirmed the order as paid.

What happened?

After a buyer pays with Apple Pay at checkout, Lifecycle Manager marks the Shopify order as paid. If Shopify does not confirm that update, Lifecycle Manager tries again, up to 3 tries in total, spaced over about 15 minutes. Before each retry, it checks whether the order is already paid, so it never marks it twice. If all 3 tries fail, the transaction is flagged Needs attention. The payment stays processed and is not refunded, the order is not cancelled, and the buyer sees a successful payment. Lifecycle Manager does not automatically refund the payment because refunding a paid order would cost you the sale and cancel the buyer’s order for an item that is in stock.

How you are notified

Lifecycle Manager tells you in three ways:
  • An in-app notification in the bell.
  • A banner at the top of the dashboard: Payment processed. Shopify reconciliation needed.
  • An email.

Mark the order as paid and reconcile

  1. Mark the order as paid in Shopify admin. You can use Open Shopify order on the Lifecycle Manager transaction page to open the order.
  2. Reconcile the transaction in Lifecycle Manager. Open the transaction from Transactions, or select Review transaction in the dashboard banner. Select Reconcile. Lifecycle Manager confirms with Shopify that the order is paid and clears the Needs attention flag.

What you see on the transaction page

The transaction page shows the amount, payment status, attempts count, and Stripe charge id. It also has these buttons:

If Reconcile still reports an unpaid order

If Reconcile reports that the order is still unpaid in Shopify, mark it as paid in Shopify admin first, then return to the transaction and select Reconcile again. If the issue continues or you cannot complete these steps, select Contact support on the transaction page. See Support tickets for help using the support desk.
