# Use the AI Assistant

> Ask questions about your firm's knowledge base, summarize documents, and draft content.

# Use the AI Assistant

## What does this do for me?

The AI assistant answers questions using your firm's knowledge sources, summarizes documents, drafts text, and helps with legal workflows.

## 1. Open the AI assistant

Open **AI Assistant** in the navigation. The assistant uses **OpenAI** for responses and embeddings, with a **Workers AI** fallback.

## 2. Ask a question

Type your question in the chat input. The assistant retrieves relevant context from your firm's knowledge chunks using semantic search (pgvector) and returns a scoped response.

## 3. Use personas and agents

The assistant supports different **personas** that adjust tone and focus. **Agents** can perform multi-step workflows. Open the persona selector to switch between available personas.

## 4. Summarize a document

1. Open a document from **Documents**.
2. Choose **Summarize with AI**.
3. The assistant reads the document content and returns a summary.

## 5. Draft content

1. In the AI assistant, describe what you want to draft (e.g., "Draft a brief status update for the Smith matter").
2. The assistant produces a draft based on the matter context.
3. Review, edit, and copy the draft.

## 6. Usage tracking

Open **AI Assistant**, then **Usage** to see your organization's daily AI token consumption. The daily limit is configured by your firm administrator.
