> Create your first entity and primary location in EntityShield, with an optional first permit.

# Complete first-time setup

## What does this do for me?

The setup wizard creates the minimum records you need to begin organizing compliance work: one business entity and one primary location. You may also add a first permit or leave permits for later.

## Before you start

Have the entity's legal name, entity type, state of formation, and primary address ready. Formation date and EIN are optional in the wizard.

## Create the entity

1. Sign in or sign up at `entityshield.app`.
2. Open the setup wizard and select **Get Started**.
3. Enter the legal name.
4. Choose the entity type and state of formation.
5. Add a formation date and EIN if you want them on the initial record.
6. Select **Create Entity**.

## Add the primary location

1. Enter a label such as a main-office name. If left blank, the wizard uses `Headquarters`.
2. Choose the location type.
3. Enter address line 1, city, state, and ZIP. Address line 2 is optional.
4. Select **Save & Continue**.

> [!NOTE]
>
> A primary location is required before the wizard can finish.

## Add a permit or finish

Choose a permit type and optionally enter its issuing authority, issue date, and expiration date. Select **Add Permit & Finish** to create it.

If you are not ready, select **I'll add permits later**, then select **Finish Setup**.

When setup completes, EntityShield offers links to the new entity and the dashboard.
