# Manage staff roles

> Assign operator, approver, executor, and admin roles to Shopify staff members.

# Manage staff roles

## What does this do for me?

Control which staff members can create imports, approve changes, execute operations, and manage the app. Role assignments are stored per shop and require an administrator to manage.

## Available roles

| Role | Permissions |
| - | - |
| **Operator** | Create and archive projects, import CSV files, create playbooks |
| **Approver** | Approve and reject change sets, request AI reviews |
| **Executor** | Execute and roll back change sets, run playbooks |
| **Admin** | All actions plus manage billing, manage staff roles, dismiss setup |

The first staff member to complete workspace setup automatically becomes the admin.

## 1. Open team settings

1. Go to **Settings** in the sidebar.
2. Select **Team access**.

## 2. Assign a role

1. In the **Assign role** section, enter the **Shopify staff ID** of the staff member.
2. Select the **Role**: Operator, Approver, Executor, or Admin.
3. Select **Save assignment**.

The staff ID is the identifier that Shopify provides in the session token. Staff members do not need to be in the app first.

## 3. Change or remove a role

1. In the **Assignments** list, find the staff member.
2. Select **Remove role** to delete their assignment.

An admin cannot remove their own role, even after assigning another admin. Another administrator must remove that assignment.
