# Let customers merge their own orders

> Offer the Pro customer self-service portal so a shopper can request a merge from your storefront.

# Let customers merge their own orders

## What does this do for me?

The customer self-service portal lets a shopper ask to combine their own duplicate orders without contacting you. It runs over a signed Shopify app proxy, so the merchant's storefront handles the request and the app confirms the shop securely. The portal requires Pro.

## How the portal works

The portal is reached through your store's app proxy at the path `/apps/order-merge-pro`. The app is installed with the proxy target `portal/merge`, and only requests signed by Shopify's app proxy are accepted. The shop is taken from the signed request, never from anything the customer types.

## What a customer sees

1. The portal loads the shop's eligible unfulfilled orders and shows them in a table under **Your eligible orders**, with columns **Keep**, **Merge**, **Order**, and **Placed**.
2. The customer selects one order to keep and checks the other orders to merge into it.
3. The customer selects **Review merge** to see a **Review your merge** summary listing the **Primary order** and the **Orders to merge into it**.
4. The customer selects **Confirm and request merge** to create the merge request, or **Change selection** to go back.

The portal notice is explicit before confirmation: merging cancels the secondary orders, restocks their inventory, and moves their items onto the primary order.

## Safe behavior you can rely on

* A customer needs at least two eligible, unfulfilled orders before anything can be merged.
* If a selected order becomes ineligible between review and confirmation, the portal refuses the merge and asks the customer to choose again.
* If creating the merge job fails while the selected orders are still eligible, the portal keeps the review summary and shows the merge error in place.
* The portal applies a short-lived rate limit, keyed by shop and client IP address, on the customer-facing path.
