# Getting started with Merchandising & Content Toolkit

## What does this do for me?

This guide walks you through the setup checklist that opens when you first install the app, so you can enable theme blocks and create your first saved configuration.

## 1. Open the app

Open **Merchandising & Content Toolkit** (also called Auto Merch in its setup) from Shopify admin. The **Home** screen shows a banner titled **Finish setting up: N of M steps left**. Select **Show steps** to reveal the checklist, or choose **Continue** to start the first unfinished step.

## 2. Complete the setup steps

The setup checklist has four steps, and the app derives each step from merchant-saved state:

1. **Enable theme blocks** — go to the theme setup screen, pick a theme, and follow the instructions to add app blocks and activate app embeds.
2. **Configure sorting rules** — set up automatic sorting for your collections.
3. **Build your hierarchy** — organize collections into a parent-child structure.
4. **Create rich content** — use the content builder to design custom layouts.

Select **Skip for now** if you want to close the setup reminder for this installation.

## 3. Save at least one of each configuration

Setup progress is recorded only when you save real configuration:

* Adding and saving a sorting rule,
* saving a collection hierarchy relationship, and
* saving a content-builder block.

Each saved configuration contributes to setup progress. Simply opening a screen does not complete its step.

## 4. Where to go next

The **Home** screen groups the rest of the app into **Store activity**, **Merchandising tools**, **Store operations**, and **Advanced tools**. Use the cards to jump to **Sorting Rules**, **Collection Hierarchy**, **Content Builder**, **Smart urgency tags**, **Privacy Exports**, **Maintenance**, **Analytics dashboard**, **Dynamic collections**, **API webhooks**, and **A/B Experiments**.

For support, select the **Contact Auto Merch support** link at the bottom of any screen.
