# Set up earning rules

> Configure how customers earn points through purchases, actions, and custom rules.

# Set up earning rules

## What does this do for me?

Earning rules define how customers collect points. You control the points-per-currency rate, rounding, minimum order value, and bonus point sources like signups, reviews, social shares, and birthdays.

## 1. Open Points Rules

1. In the app sidebar, select **Points Rules**.
2. The page shows the points-per-currency configuration, earning rules list, and related sub-pages (**Earning Rules**, **Achievements**, **Missions**, **VIP Tiers**, **Memberships**).

## 2. Configure the earn rate

1. Under **Points Configuration**, set the **Points per currency unit** — how many points customers earn per 1 unit of store currency.
2. Choose the **Rounding strategy**: **Floor**, **Round**, or **Ceil**.
3. Set a **Minimum order value** — orders below this value earn no points.
4. Toggle **Exclude shipping** and **Exclude taxes** to control what counts toward the earn calculation.

## 3. Set up action-based earning rules

1. Under **Earning Rules**, select **Create rule**.
2. Choose the event type (e.g., account creation, newsletter signup, birthday, product review, social share).
3. Set the points value and any cooldown period or max-awards-per-customer limit.
4. Select **Save**.

## 4. Configure bonus point sources

In the app, open **Points Rules** and scroll to **Bonus Actions**. Set:

* **Signup bonus** — points awarded when a customer joins the loyalty program.
* **Points per review** — points for submitting a product review.
* **Birthday points** — points awarded on the customer's birthday.
* **Social share points** — points for sharing on social media.

## 5. Save and test

Select **Save** at the top of the page. Open your storefront and place a test order to confirm points are awarded at the configured rate.
