# Billing and plans

## What does this do for me?

Choose the plan that fits your store. Starter covers the base assistant features. Pro adds platform-paid AI inference and connected account features.

## Available plans

**Starter** includes a recurring base charge and meters `ai_answer` usage for analytics. **Pro** adds the `managed_ai_answer` usage meter for platform-paid inference and supports connected account features like Algolia indexing.

Pricing is shown in the **Plan and billing** section of Settings before you confirm the Shopify subscription. The current subscription flow grants no trial days.

## View and change your plan

1. Open **Settings** from the app navigation.
2. Go to the **Plan and billing** section.
3. View your current plan label. Use the plan selector to choose **Starter** or **Pro**.
4. Confirm the subscription change through Shopify's billing confirmation. Plan changes apply immediately.

## Subscription status

The Subscription status page shows whether your subscription is active. Active subscriptions unlock the full paid features. If a subscription is pending, declined, expired, frozen, or cancelled, the affected features are held until billing is resolved. Shopify's billing webhooks keep the subscription state in sync when a plan is cancelled or changed.

## Verified development stores

If you have a Shopify-verified development store, the app provides Pro access without requiring a subscription charge. A developer-access badge describes effective features on the Home page.

## Usage meters

Usage meters track AI answers and attributed orders through Shopify App Events:

* **AI answer** (`ai_answer`) — analytics-only on Starter
* **Managed AI answer** (`managed_ai_answer`) — platform-paid inference on Pro
* **Handoff created** (`handoff_created`) — each support handoff
* **Simulation run** (`simulation_run`) — each simulation execution
* **Assisted order** (`assisted_order`) — orders attributed to a conversation
* **Knowledge sync** (`knowledge_sync`) — each catalog and policy sync
