# Set up approval rules

## What does this do for me?

An **approval rule** decides automatically what happens after an application is submitted — approve, deny, or request revision. Rules run in priority order after submission and after each document upload.

## 1. Open Approval rules

Open **Approval rules** in the Customer Gate navigation.

## 2. Create a rule

In the **Create rule** card:

1. Enter a **Name**.
2. Set a **Priority**. Lower numbers run first.
3. Enter **When to apply this rule (JSON)** for the conditions.
4. Enter **What this rule does (JSON)** for the actions, such as a status, tags to add, entitlements to grant, or whether to create a Shopify B2B company.
5. Select **Create rule**.

## 3. Manage existing rules

In the **Rules** table, each rule shows its **Name**, **Priority**, **Active** state, and actions:

* Edit the **Name** or **Priority** and select **Save**.
* Select **Activate** or **Deactivate** to toggle the rule.
* Select **Delete** to remove it.

Deleting an approval rule can't be undone. A rule created by a template also removes the template's form and access rule; a form with submissions cannot be removed.

## Next step

Approvals grant entitlements and tags that your access rules use. See [Set up access rules](https://docs.pcnaid.com/nodes/shopify/customer-gate/merchant/guides/set-up-access-rules.md).
