# Install and activate ConsentAI

> Install ConsentAI from the Shopify App Store, authenticate, and enable the theme app embed so the consent checkbox appears on your storefront.

# Install and activate ConsentAI

## What does this do for me?

This guide walks through installing ConsentAI and enabling the theme app embed so your storefront displays a required Terms & Conditions consent checkbox on storefront pages before shoppers continue to checkout. Theme app embeds do not render on Shopify checkout step pages.

## 1. Install the app

1. Open the **Shopify App Store** and search for ConsentAI.
2. Click **Add app** and approve the requested permissions.
3. After installation, ConsentAI opens in your Shopify admin.

ConsentAI requests **eight scopes**: read and write metaobjects and metaobject definitions, read and write products, read themes, and read orders. These allow the app to version policy content, define product metafield references, detect the theme app embed, and link consent to Shopify orders.

## 2. Enable the theme app embed

The storefront checkbox is invisible until you activate ConsentAI's theme app embed.

1. In the ConsentAI dashboard, check the setup modal or **Storefront status** section.
2. Click **Activate in theme** to open the Shopify theme editor.
3. In the theme editor, navigate to **App embeds**.
4. Locate **Pcnaid T\&C Checkbox** and toggle it on.
5. Click **Save** in the theme editor.
6. Return to ConsentAI. The dashboard confirms the embed status.

The app reads your live theme's settings to determine whether the embed is enabled, using the `read_themes` scope.

## 3. Confirm the setup

ConsentAI shows a three-step setup checklist:

1. **Review your consent policy copy** — configure the checkbox text and link.
2. **Activate the app embed** — complete when the theme embed is enabled.
3. **Capture your first storefront consent** — test by visiting your storefront and checking the consent box.

After completing all steps, the banner disappears and the app shows a success message.
