# Manage your OpenAI key for AI remediation

## What does this do for me?

AI-generated remediation provides a plain-language plan with steps to fix readiness audit failures. The app can use either your own OpenAI API key or a platform-managed key.

## 1. Check your key status

1. Open **Readiness audits** in the AgentLink sidebar.
2. Under **AI-generated remediation**, read the key status message.

The status is one of:

* **Using your own OpenAI API key** — you saved a merchant-owned key.
* **Using the platform-managed OpenAI key** — the app uses its configured key.
* **No OpenAI key configured** — remediation is unavailable until a key is provided.

## 2. Save your own key

1. In the **Your OpenAI API key** field, paste your OpenAI API key.
2. Select **Save key**.

Your key is encrypted before storage and is never echoed back. After saving, the status updates to **Using your own OpenAI API key**.

## 3. Clear your saved key

Select **Clear saved key** to remove your key and fall back to the platform-managed key when one is available. The status updates to reflect the new mode.

## 4. What happens without a key

If no OpenAI key is available (neither yours nor the platform-managed one), remediation guidance is omitted from audit results. The audit still runs and reports findings.
