# Verify ID in Shopify POS

> Run the implemented QR-based customer identity check from a Shopify POS register.

# Verify ID in Shopify POS

## What does this do for me?

This flow lets staff start the same document-backed age check from a Shopify POS register. It requires the Enterprise plan, an enabled age gate, Enhanced mode, and a configured identity provider.

## Run a check

1. In Shopify POS, select the **Verify customer ID** tile.
2. If a customer is attached to the cart and still has a live verified status, the modal shows that the customer is already verified and no scan is needed.
3. Otherwise, ask the customer to scan the QR code with their phone.
4. The customer's phone opens the hosted identity-verification flow.
5. Keep the modal open while it checks the server every two seconds.
6. Continue the sale only after the modal shows **Verified!**.

The register reads the shop from Shopify's signed POS session token. The QR contains a signed token tied to one verification record and expires after 15 minutes.

## If the QR expires or the check fails

* Select **New code** when the modal reports that the code expired.
* Select **Start over** when verification was not completed.
* If the modal says in-person ID verification is unavailable, confirm the store is on Enterprise and that Enhanced mode is active. Server configuration problems must be resolved by app support.

After a real guest verification, the POS post-purchase block can remind staff to invite the customer to create an account so the still-valid verification can be linked for later visits.
